As I said above slightly bend your knees and move your dominant foot a little ahead of the other. For example, if you're right-handed, your right foot needs to be slightly in front of your left foot. Get ready and balanced before the ball is in your hands so you can take a shot as quickly as possible without having to regain balance before shooting. Be ready to put that ball in the hoop!
Have your hands up by your chest and ready to receive the ball.
2. Grab hold of the ball
Along with knowing how to stand, you need to maintain control of the ball. Grab the ball using the fingertips of your shooting hand. Try not let the ball touch your palm. Remember, always fingertip control. Your opposite hand should be on the side of the ball. Again don't let the ball touch your palm. Trust me this is vital. Fingertip control. Ensure that the ball and your eyes form a straight line leading to the hoop. Keep your lower arm up and at a 90-degree angle. Your elbows need to be in line with your shoulder as you raise them slightly to aim for the shot.
Once you have the ball, make sure you have it under your control using at least your fingers and your thumb. Square your feet, body elbows and eyes in line with the target (the precious hoop).
3. Focus on your target
Keep your eyes on the target. I believe that your target should be aiming for just over the front of the rim. This is the best way to go. It has been my aim my whole life and I have always been a great shooter. This can help you avoid distractions that may hinder your ability to make the shot. Keep your eyes on the target, that hoop (or just over the front rim). You can learn to shoot a basketball perfectly!
